THE TREASURE OF SILLUSTANI – TOURS PUNO – TOUR PERU – TRAVEL TO PERU
More than 500 years ago, the Iberian conqueror was surprised to find a dense population in the highlands of Puno (tours puno). He later understood that his source of life was in the breeding and management of South American camelids (vicuña, llama, alpaca and guanaco) and the life that he boiled in Lake Titikaka in Puno.
But what was really inexplicable for the adventurer who along with Pizarro spread throughout what was then called Tahuantinsuyo (Peru), was that precious metals such as gold and silver, did not have the same value that was given in the Old World.
More important was the spondylus; while the precious metals fulfilled only a religious and decorative function – Peru. But one of the reasons why later the conqueror decided to stay in what is now the Puno Region, was due to the existence of an enormous mining wealth; particularly in the Carabaya and Sandia mines.
And since then, gold and silver are intensely exploited in the region, and despite the centuries, today it continues to be an important source of income for the country – Peru. Precisely, part of what is extracted from these mines, forms what today is known as “The Treasure of Sillustani” – Tours Puno.
In 1971, accidentally and near the Chullpa del Lagarto, in Sillustani – Tours Puno, a funeral trousseau from the Inca period – Tours Puno was found. This is a very important finding since a large part of the pieces that make up this trousseau are made of gold, and for this reason scientists have not hesitated to call it “The Treasure of Sillustani” – Tours Puno – Peru.
The Empresa de Generación Eléctrica San Gabán S.A. – Peru, aware of the importance of this extraordinary funerary equipment and that it was recently exhibited in the eyes of the world in the Dreyer Museum in the city of Puno, publishes this scientific work in which it gives an account of the details of the find, the content and its use by the ancient Peruvians who inhabited the area – Peru. In this way, our Company also hopes to contribute to the tourism development of Puno, and we are sure that the reader will feel more than motivated to come to the land of the Sacred Lake to appreciate this valuable cultural legacy – Tours Puno – Peru.
