The Last Incas: Q’ero Mystics of Peru

Seekers of ancient wisdom often refer to the Q’ero as the direct descendants of the Inca bloodline.

The Q’ero, who until the 1950s lived in relative isolation in a remote community located 14,000 above sea level in the mountains south of Cusco. In recent years, the Q’ero have been seen more regularly in increasing numbers which has led them to move closer to the west and share their knowledge.

They have a nature-based supernatural tradition deeply rooted in respect, love, reciprocity and understanding the workings of the living life energy they call “Kausay or kawsay” that animates and operates everything in the universe.

Sumak kawsay: Harmonious relationship, both spiritual and material, between the individual and the nature that surrounds him. It is a Quechua expression that means ‘good living’. … In its original meaning, sumak refers to the ideal and beautiful realization of the planet, while kawsay means ‘life with dignity and fullness’.

“What is daily life like here for you?”

Stephanie asks the Machacca family a Qeros Family.

“Life here is quite calm and happy. It’s very different from life in the city.

We get up around 3 or 4 in the morning except on Sundays, when we rest. Most days we are with the alpacas or farming in our potato fields. We rotate our responsibilities. Family also occupies an important part of our time. Men and women share housework and childcare.”

The Queros are the direct descendants of the Incas.

They sought refuge in the mountains at more than 4,200 meters above sea level, escaping from the conquerors. They were there for 500 years and have guarded the original knowledge and the sacred prophecy about a great change (Pachacuti), waiting for the moment when this world would turn around, returning harmony and putting an end to the era of chaos and disorder.

The Queros have lived in their villages high in the Andes, practically isolated from the world. During the celebration of the annual festival of the “Return of the Pleiades”, the people gathered there were amazed to see the Queros appear, dressed with the Inca emblem of the Sun, announcing that the time of prophecies had arrived.

“We have been waiting for you for 500 years: The ancient prophecy”

The ancient prophecy mentions that this is the time of the great meeting, called Mastay and it is time for the integration of the peoples of the four cardinal points. It is they who are now offering their teachings to the West, in preparation for the day when the Eagle of the North and the Condor of the South fly together again. They also tell us that Love and Compassion will be the forces that guide the union of peoples.

“The new Guardians of the Earth will come from the West and those who have had the greatest impact on Mother Earth now have the responsibility of remaking the relationship with Her, after remaking themselves.”

The prophecy maintains that North America will provide the physical strength, Europe will provide the mental aspect and the heart will be provided by South America. With this, the prophecies are encouraging, they refer to the end of a time as we have known it until now, it is the end of a way of thinking, a way of being, a way of relating to nature and between beings. The Incas hope for the emergence of a new golden age, although they also mention tumultuous changes on the Earth and in the psyche of the people to redefine relationships and spirituality.

The Great Change has already begun and brings the promise of a new human being. The chaos and confusion will last 4 years. The Queros shamans speak of a “tear” in the fabric of time. They say that we must die to old models of spirituality to open ourselves to self-renewal, becoming midwives of a new way of thinking and acting.

We need to re-learn to honor and respect Mother Earth, Father Sun, the Sister Stars, discover and respect everything and everyone and thus, be able to make a quantum leap towards what we are becoming, all together.

“Follow your own footprints. Learn from the rivers, the trees, the rocks. Honor your brothers, honor Mother Earth, honor the Great Spirit. Honor yourself and all Creation. Look with the eyes of your Soul and commit to what is essential.”
