Tourist Information of Tours Machu Picchu Peru

100 years Machu Picchu Peru:

In Peru, 2011 marks a century of “discovery” of Machu Picchu by Hiram Bingham on his tours. This site is the most active in the construction of the Peruvian Nation-State identity discourse. Repatriation has been a triggering factor in the national collective imagination. The arguments for repatriation became political economic strategies of appropriation of the site as cultural heritage. In this article we will outline a recount of the state policies taken contextualizing the fact as an act of postcolonial reparation (machupicchu tours, machupicchu trips, peru tours)

In Peru, July 24, 2011 marks 100 years since the American explorer and politician Hiram Bingham III (1868-1956) discovered “scientifically” the archaeological site of Machu Picchu , tours guided by Andean Quechua inhabitants of the region. From that date, Bingham, inspirer of a generation of explorers and adventurers of North American novels and films, “exported”, “removed” or “stolen” the pieces product of his excavations towards the US during his tours, to be deposited in the Peabody Museum, administered by Yale University (Tours Peru Machupicchu). The pieces were taken from Peru with the authorization of the government of the day, but even today they are still deposited in museum warehouses; they toured the US in a three-year traveling exhibition and are the subject of fine publications and catalogs (Burger and Salazar, 2003, 2004). However, no Andean Quechua, Cuzco or Peruvian settlers have the possibility of accessing these Machu cultural remains, which make up an essential part of the Andean cultural identity (Tours Peru Machupicchu). In this sense, we understand the concept of cultural identity as the identification of an individual or group of individuals with a material element on the basis of socially significant differences (Díaz-Andreu and Lucy, 2005). We start from the idea that there are processes of materialization of certain social facts, and that the materialization of these processes in turn creates a local identity (Díaz-Andreu and Lucy, 2005). In this case, there is a relationship between materiality and human collectivity in terms of identity between the current Quechua Community of Cusco and the material culture produced in the Inca period of the same community (circa 1470-1532) (Tours Peru Machupicchu). </ p>

This fact suggests both to the inhabitants of Cuzco and to the Andean academy that certain colonial practices of the past continue to be reproduced to this day by academic and official institutions of the countries economically developed (related to imperialist and colonialist management) of the world, who proclaim the legitimate, and even legal machu, right of belonging to the material past of the colonized countries, which they refer to in their economic and political terms as the “Third World” (Tours Peru Machupicchu).

This article will expose the various arguments of machu that support the legitimacy of cultural repatriation as a case of freedom to cultural identity and human rights, to conclude with a rethinking concept of “repatriation” and “restitution” taken to the field of reparation, which implies not only the simple return of cultural objects, but also the recognition of a long colonial cultural tradition characterized by the appropriation or invention of the region’s past Subalterns, call them those of the east, or those of the south. The recognition that this tradition lies in the distinction of the superiority of the “First World” versus the inferiority of the “Third World” (Tours Peru Machupicchu).

Machu Picchu. Between heritage and community of Peru:

Machu Picchu is the -conflictive- symbol of Peru these days, because its exceptional Inca architecture assembled with the Andean landscape attracts thousands of tourists and travelers, both national and international, generating significant economic income to certain business sectors and marginalizing ancestral local residents (Tours Peru Machupicchu). This initially economic marginalization is reproduced in the discourse center of a Nation-State built in the 19th century, through the elaboration of the concept of “cultural heritage” or the appropriation by the central (Peruvian) state apparatus of memory. Collective material from the different native peoples (Tours Peru Machupicchu).

We will present this case as one of both republican and post-republican machu colonialism. The appropriations of this material heritage by the hegemonic institutions of knowledge production occurred at first at the beginning of republican lives through the opening to economic and academic capitalism, and today they continue to be re-produced from the State discourses through the appropriation of the material past of Andean societies from the “patrimonialization” of their past. Machu Picchu, in this sense, has been discovered, rediscovered, appropriated and recovered by agents that little or nothing have involved the descendants of its creators (Tours Peru Machupicchu).
